Port’s Carnivale kicks off

The 2010 Port Douglas Carnivale launch officially kicked off the tourist season with a bevy of beauties  to the tune of ‘Everything is OK’ at the Douglas Inlet. 

 Cr Julia Leu did the honours and said that she has been associated with the Carnivale for more than 20 years and feels this year it is going to be the biggest and the best. 


 The main Carnivale runs from May 20 to 30 with the traditional Street Parade running on the first Friday evening.

this year the 10-day festival will be enhanced by several new events.  The festival costs more than $200,000 to put on and sponsors were thanked for their generous support.


 The Miss Carnivale competition is being organised by Corrine Durie and Monique Leman from Taste Port Douglas.


 The preliminary events for the Carivaale begins with the first knoutout rounds of the Beach Cricket Comp on Saturday May 15 and the Songwriters competition on May 18 at the Combined Club. Ken Dobbs, President of the PD Chamber of Commerce, said.
