Men charged over Edmonton assault

 Man charged over security camera theft, Manoora:  A 22-year-old Edmonton man is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 27 after he was charged with the theft of a security camera from a taxi cab.  It is alleged that in the early hours of March 27 the man had exited the cab in Springfield Crescent at Manoora before forcibly removing the roof mounted camera and running off.  He was charged on Saturday afternoon with one count of stealing.

 

High range drink driver, Port Douglas:  A 37-year-old Manoora man is due to appear in the Mossman Magistrates Court on June 2 after he was intercepted on Port Douglas Road shortly after 2.15am on Sunday.  The man allegedly refused to supply a roadside breath test and was subsequently transport to Mossman Police station where he allegedly returned a breath alcohol reading of .282%.  He was charged with failing to supply a roadside breath test, obstructing Police and driving under the influence of liquor.

 

Man charged of fuel thefts, Smithfield:  Police have charged a 39-year-old Woree man in relation to nine separate thefts of fuel from local fuel stations.  It is alleged that the offences occurred between November 2009 and January 2010.  The man was intercepted at Palm Cove on Saturday afternoon and taken to the Smithfield Police station where he was later charged in relation to the incidents.  He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 31.

 

Men charged over Edmonton assault:  Detectives from Edmonton and Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch have charged three Gordonvale men aged 18, 19 and 20 as a result of an assault that is alleged to have occurred at a Talisman Close address at about 8.15pm on Friday evening.  It is alleged that the three assaulted two men aged 20 and 44 years, outside the address.  The three have been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm whilst in company and are due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later today.

 

Youth charged over purse theft, Cairns:  Detectives from the Cairns Child Protection and Investigation Unit have charged a 16-year-old Redlynch boy following an investigation into the theft of a woman’s purse from a store in the Orchid Plaza shopping complex.  It is alleged that the youth entered the store at approximately 3pm on Saturday and stole the purse from behind a counter.  Detectives arrested the youth on Sunday afternoon and he will be dealt with under the provision of the Juvenile Justice Act.

 

Burglary, Cairns North:  Police are investigating a burglary that occurred at a James Street residential unit overnight on Saturday.  It is believed that the offenders climbed onto the balcony of the second floor unit before forcing entry to a balcony door and entering the unit.  A laptop computer, keys, a wallet and other items were stolen during the incident.

 

Robbery, Cairns North:  Detectives are investigating the robbery of a 20-year-old woman that occurred on James Street about 4.30pm on Sunday.  The woman was walking west along James Street when she was approached from behind by a male cyclist who forcibly removed her handbag as he rode past.  The woman was knocked to the ground and suffered grazing and bruising as a result of the incident.  The male was seen to look through the victim’s bag before throwing it on the ground and riding off along James Street.  He is described as being a male of Aboriginal appearance.

 

Theft of boat motor and accessories, Edmonton:  Police are investigating the theft of an outboard motor from a boat that occurred sometime between 5.30pm Friday and midday on Saturday.  The boat was stored on a boat trailer in the front yard of a Hancock Street residence.  Thieves removed a 25 horsepower Mariner outboard motor, a 25 litre fuel tank and a battery from the boat.
