Coastcare ambassador Matt Welsh is urging people in the Cairns area to consider applying for funds if they have a project that involves helping protect or preserve the coastline. Coastcare has welcomed the announcement that $4 million is available to protect Australia’s precious coastline. Grants of up to $50,000 are available to support hands on local projects if people are protecting their local, coastal and marine environment.
60,000 people are now helping Coastcare with 2,000 Coastcare groups across the nation. “Australia’s Coastcare movement consists of over 60,000 volunteers nationwide, and with this special coastal and marine round of the Envirofund, Coastcare hopes that people in the Cairns area will take up the call and make a real difference to their local coastline,” Matt Welsh said. “This is the first time the Australian Government has provided funds specifically for coastal environment projects through the Envirofund. I urge everyone with an interest in protecting their local coastal environment to apply for a grant. We want everyone to get involved.”
