Cairns Newspapers Merge
Cairns Community Newspapers has announced the merger of its publications, the Cairns Northern News and The Southern Herald, thus launching its much-anticipated Cairns Bulletin.
The Cairns Northern News has been in circulation at the northern beaches for 13 years and the Southern Herald circulated the southern suburbs for nearly 4 years,
"The merger of the two newspapers will provide a much richer platform for us to deliver content," Managing editor Corina Angel-Dzubiel said.
"The Cairns Bulletin", has been in the pipeline for some time. Its launch comes as no surprise to stakeholders. Up to this point It’s predecessors The Southern Herald and Cairns Northern News, have served the Cairns community well.
The new independent publication will provide a Cairns-wide opportunity for locals to communicate and have their say offering much needed content diversity. Advertisers on the other hand, will benefit from a wider readership base enjoying greater exposure of their products and services to all of Cairns.
"Merging the newspapers will save precious resources. There will be no need for duplication in news or marketing. It’s not just a matter of saving on expenses, it’s about the added benefits the merger will provide to our readership base and advertisers alike,"she said.
What’s more no job losses have resulted because of the merger. In fact, more staff will be required.
The Cairns Bulletin is expected to be home delivered to Cairns suburbs from Palm Cove to Gordonvale with a distribution of 33,541 to a population reach of 84,478.
